A Brand Born in Mexico City Just Rewrote Sephora's Rulebook
AORA México launched as Sephora's first fully plastic-free beauty brand. In Texas, a state with deep ties to Mexico, the debut carries extra weight.
A spicy lip serum called Acaríciame Más sold out three times before most shoppers even learned its name. Nobody bought ad space to make it happen. The serum built its following one recommendation at a time.
AORA México is the brand behind it. The label became Sephora's first fully plastic-free beauty brand this month. Every product ships in tin, aluminum, or wood instead of plastic. The timing lines up with Plastic Free July, a global push to cut single-use plastic. Texas shoppers get their first look at the brand through a major retailer, after years of online buzz.

Ahora or Never
AORA takes its name from ahora, the Spanish word for now. Nour Tayara and Rodrigo Peñafiel founded the label in Mexico City in 2022. Their core idea was simple: luxury beauty and environmental care should never cancel each other out. Every formula pulls from Mexican-origin ingredients, including five native chiles, tepezcohuite, and cactus flower.
The Inícia Illuminating Primer already sold out three times before its retail debut. It picked up fans among makeup artists long before Sephora carried it. Shoppers can also find the pyramid-shaped Mírame eyeshadow palette and a set of collectible leather Chile Carrier Charms. Prices span $22 to $65 across the line.
Zero Plastic, Zero Apologies
rePurpose Global certified AORA's plastic-free claims. The brand says its customers have already helped pull more than 2,390 kilograms of plastic out of nature. Beauty counters usually run on glossy compacts and cellophane. A collection built without either one still turns heads inside a store the size of Sephora.
Spanish-language packaging and bilingual content rarely show up at major beauty retailers. AORA leans into all of it without apology. Texas shares deep cultural and economic ties with Mexico, especially across border cities like El Paso and Laredo. The state carries one of the largest Latino populations in the country. A brand rooted in Mexican ingredients and language does not need an introduction here.
AORA launched online only, live now at Sephora. No in-store date has been confirmed. The brand already built a zero-plastic, all-aluminum display meant for retail partners. Shoppers near Houston, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio may want to watch their local Sephora as the rollout continues.
"This is the moment we built AORA for," Nour Tayara, AORA's co-founder, said in a statement announcing the Sephora partnership. "Sephora sets the standard in beauty, and when it embraces a new idea, the industry pays attention. This launch proves that plastic-free luxury is no longer a niche concept. It belongs at the center of the beauty industry, and we're proud to show that a brand born in Mexico can help define what's next."
For a label named after the word now, the timing looks anything but accidental.
